Cheapest way to travel from Washington DC to Montreal (Canada)?
I want to travel from Washington DC to Montreal, Canada during the Christmas break. Because of the holiday season, plane tickets are too expensive for me. I'm willing to travel by either train or bus. So far I've looked at Amtrak and Greyhound. But I was wondering if there are any other alternate companies for traveling?

Take the airplane, trust me! If you sat on a bus or a train, it might be slightly cheaper but you'd be on there for about 9 hours! Remember, you're coming to Canada...it's not anywhere near Washington DC. Pick "West Jet" they're a good airline! Trust me, last time I went to Montreal (I live in Toronto) I flew there and it's so much worth the extra $20 or whatever the difference is! But please, TAKE THE AIRPLANE! Hope you enjoy Montreal...don't forget to visit Old Montreal (very interesting place) and make sure you take the Metro (the subway) its nothing like you've ever seen before! But don't forget your hat, scarf and gloves (Montreal is FREEZING in December)!
Answer 2 :
There is no real cheap way to get there as there are no direct lines from DC to Montreal. However, there are bus services that operate cheaply within the different chinatowns in large cities of the United States. So, for example: You may save some money (though certainly not time) if you take the Chinatown bus in Washington DC to Chinatown in New York City (roughly $20). Then, from New York (Port Authority) you'd be able to find some buslines that go to Montreal (like Peter Pan or Greyhound), perhaps even at discount.
Answer 3 :
I would fly. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
Answer 4 :
Yes, Coach Canada also has contracts with American bus companies that should connect to Montreal. The website is below. I would, however, strongly recommend flying or renting a car and driving yourself. The price will be comprable if you buy in advance and it will be a much faster trip.
